Types of nouns
Nouns can be divided into different types :
- Common nouns
- refer to general names of people, animals, things and places.
- examples : man, police, bird, glass, room
- Proper nouns
- refer to specific persons, places and things.
- The first letter of such noun is always in capital letters.
- examples : Nurul Hidayah, Barden University, Klinik Putra
- Uncountable nouns
- nouns which have only one form and take a singular verb.
- They are the material things in life which are uncountable.
- examples : water, hair, information, sugar, news, furniture
- Concrete nouns
- things that you can see, touch, hear and smell.
- They are used with the articles a, an and the.
- They can take the singular or plural form.
- examples : chair, computer, calculator, smoke, fire, salt
- Abstract nouns
- abstract in nature
- examples qualities such as love, hatred, sincerity and conditions such as poverty and sickness
- Collective nouns
- stands for a number of persons or things as a single unit.
- examples : furniture, people, crowd
